Technology to Enhance Global Awareness & Diverse Perspectives

Tech Teacher back with another helpful post on ways you can integrate technology into lessons to help promote global awareness and diverse perspectives! In addition, the technology integration is also differentiated for all students.

How will each technology be used within the lesson? & How will each technology engage students?

Here is a brief overview of the integrated technologies that were incorporated into the 3 day remediation unit plan.

Day 1 Students will create a digital text set on Epic! that includes books about African Elephants and they must include a text about African culture. Students will take a virtual field trip to Kenya, Africa and have the opportunity to speak with a wildlife biologist. Students will complete a digital reflection on their experience.

Day 2 Students will create a digital text set on Epic! that includes books about Zebras and they must include a text about African culture. Students will create a digital story on Story Jumper about Zebras and African culture. Students will include traditions like songs and dances in their stories. Students will present their completed projects with the class.

Day 3 Students will create a digital text set on Epic! that includes books about Giraffes and they must include a text about African culture. Students will create a virtual animal observation journal about giraffes. Students will include information about African traditions.

Now that we've previewed the integrated technologies for the unit plan, I will be introducing how each will be used to engage students throughout the lesson.

The technology activities will be integrated to help students learn more about African animals and the culture of Kenya, Africa. The digital text sets that will be created each day will help students gain more background knowledge about African animals. In return, students will be more engaged in the main idea activities in the unit plan. Students can learn more about the African culture to gain a deeper understanding of our world.

The virtual field trip will help enhance student understanding of the environment of Kenya, Africa. Students will be more motivated to participate in the main idea activities because of their obtained knowledge. In addition, students will create a digital story about giraffes and African culture using their obtained knowledge from the virtual field trip, interviews, and text sets. The technology will help engage students in practicing finding the main idea in nonfiction texts. Students will present their information to their peers. This activity will help students teach others about their acquired knowledge on African animals and African culture. In return, students will feel more confident about the main idea activities within the lesson. On the last day of the unit plan, students will create a virtual animal observation journal about giraffes. Students can use their acquired knowledge from the technology activities to help enhance their findings. Student engagement will be enhanced because students will create their own journals focusing on important details about African animals and culture.

Overall, the technology is appropriately integrated into the lesson to enhance engagement for all students. Students are familiar with navigating the technology tools that have been inserted. Students will gain deeper perspectives of the African culture and wildlife. The technology will be used to help students practice their skills on navigating the tools to enhance their understanding of main idea.

How does each learning opportunity promote global awareness and/or diverse cultural perspectives?

The digital text sets that will be created on the African wildlife and culture each day will strengthen student's awareness of our world. They will gain insight on the environment of Africa and its culture. In return, students may feel motivated to travel around the globe to experience different cultures. Students will have the opportunity to enhance their understanding of African culture. Students can identify the similarities and differences about their own cultures.

The virtual field trip and interview with a wildlife biologist from Kenya, Africa will promote student's global awareness of Africa. Students will have the chance to speak with an individual who lives in Africa. Students can ask questions to help build their background knowledge of the culture and traditions. In addition, students can share their thoughts and experiences with their peers.

The digital story that will be created on Story Jumper will help students become more globally aware of the African wildlife. Students will incorporate knowledge obtained from the text set to provide important information about animals and culture of Africa. In return, students in the classroom will gain insight from their peers during the presentations. Students will have the opportunity to hear the diverse perspectives and thoughts of their peers in relation to the African wildlife and culture. Every student will have a different experience because they will be using their knowledge from the created text sets. Overall, enhancing the global awareness for everyone.

The virtual animal observation journal that will be created on the third day will help students increase their global awareness on African animal interactions, habitats, and diets. Students will also learn about the African traditions like songs, dances, and daily life. Students will share their perspectives on the information they find. Students can collect valuable information to help increase their global awareness. In return, they will feel motivated to share their experiences with others.
